Monday, February 10 Period 4

Hello and Happy Monday!

Due Wednesday, the homework is to:
  • Read chapters 3-5 for Frankenstein and on a sticky note or note card answer the question, "Why won't the narrator reveal the secret of animating human flesh?'
  • Also, while you read the chapters, find examples in the text that answer the essential question which is, "To what extent does a creator have responsibility for its creation? When does the creation assume responsibility for its own actions?"
In Class: This is week 6 of second semester and so far you have survived! Today in class, we started reading chapter 3 of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and remember that Frankenstein is the Doctor and not the monster described in the book. Before we started reading, we discussed Shelley's influences from her life and how they tied into the book. Some examples were, the deaths of her children, her husband and her mother as well as her exposure to ideas from various philosophers and her knowledge due to her freedom to read whatever she pleased. After that, we started reading and paused a few times to talk about the idea of how the creator took care of the creation or how the creation would have to live without the creator and took notes on sticky notes and stuck them in the book. This continued until the end of the period. The homework is listed above.
