Greatest Wrongs

What are some of the greatest wrongs society can commit? an individual can commit?

  1. I believe that society can commit a variety of wrongs, but the greatest wrongs that society can commit is ignoring the needs of its citizens. Ignorance by the society leads to distrust and the deterioration of the system. Another wrong by society is allowing social media to manipulate the thoughts and opinions of young adults. A wrong that an individual can commit is taking away the rights of others and not allowing them to practice their right to free will.

  2. I think the heftiest wrong a society can commit is hatred towards another society for their beliefs, or hatred in general.Hatred causes a vast variety of wrongs which I think makes it the worst of them all. Hatred has caused war and bloodshed, separation of societies, and discrimination. A society can avoid hatred and that is why I think it is the biggest "sin". Things like judgement and beliefs are not necessarily a part of your free will, and so I don't consider those wrong doings. As an individual there are many wrong doings that a person can carry-out. The worst of them all, I think, is enacting violence on the people around you. When someone does this, they can change lives forever and the victim has no say in the matter at all. An individual who enacts violence can literally hold the life of a person in their hands. But who are they to play God? An individual who decides another's fate through violence is a true "sinner" in my book. This act is the worst of all wrong doings. Violence.

  4. I believe the greatest wrong a society can commit is to ignore and go against the rights of individuals for what they believe or do. A great example of this would be freedom of religion. For example, there was recently a story about a gay couple who wanted to purchase a wedding cake at a certain wedding cake store. The owner kindly declined because same sex marriage went against his religious views. Instead of just going to another store, the couple decides to sue the small business owner. Of course with today's courts, the owner is found guilty and fined a large amount. This is the greatest wrong a society can commit. The greatest wrong an individual can commit is violence. Taking another person's life or badly injuring someone is never the answer to any problem, especially if they did nothing to you.

  5. For me, one of the worst wrongs that both society or an individual can commit would be closed-mindedness based on one's own opinions. I completely understand that everyone has their own opinions, but I believe that everyone should be open to their opinions, there should not be one opinion that is deemed right, whilst others are looked down upon. This kind of close-mindedness is so dangerous because it acts as an inlet to other wrongs such as hatred and violence. For individuals, I think that it is completely wrong to judge others. It seems like such a small simple thing, but that is what makes it so dangerous and so wrong. Judging consumes our society and it breeds angry, insecure and unstable people. Ultimately, I think that these things are the worst wrongs because they are so completely accepted and rampart in our society people do not even realize when they occur, or the fact that they act as speedy pathways to the things most people regard to be wrong.

  6. I think the greatest wrong a person can commit is being violent towards other people. It is very hard knowing that normal people can harm others and get away with it. I mean things such as murder, any kind of physical abuse, terrorist attacks, etc. Obviously recently we have all been through one of those situations so now I feel more strongly about this topic. Thing such as 9/11, school shootings, Hitler, and Syria, really make me think that there is not a greater wrong than this. I don't believe that violence is the answer. I wish people would handle things in a more peaceful manner.

  8. The greatest wrong a person can do is take the life of another person. I say this because I do not believe people should decide weather somebody should be able to live or die, if they choose to take a persons life that is the greatest wrong doing a person can do. Another reason I would consider this the worst thing is because if you can kill another person there is obviously something going on in your life that you need to get help and really try to control such horrible feelings. Last reason is because I believe god should be the only thing to decide weather somebody should live or die. That's my opinion on the matter and I think killing somebody is the worst thing a person can do.

  9. The greatest wrong an individual can commit is violence. While they're act may only target one person or maybe even themselves, it can hurt many more than that. As humans, we are emotional. When someone hurts the people we love, we can't help but be hurt, upset, or angry. It is a sin that not only effects one person or a small group of people, but it radiates and can effect an entire nation. I believe the greatest wrong a society can commit is betraying its people. A society is supposed support its people, build them up. It should be something that the people can fall back on, but when it betrays its people, it crumbles. Also, the sin is made worse because a society has an impact on millions of people and its failing them.

  10. The greatest wrong a society can commit is genicide, the mass murdering of a group of people because of who they are, what they believe, or how they look. Everyone should have the right to believe whatever they want regardless of how others feel about it. Everyone is given a life and they should live it the way they want no one should take that which they can never give back.
The greatest wrong an individual can commit is abuse eachother. This could be taken mentally or physically each one has terrible outcomes and both hurt. No one should have to go through repetitive physical and mental pain and this is all caused by eachother. Everyone should feel comfortable with who they are and those who set out to reverse that are despicable.

  11. The greatest wrong a society or an individual can commit is violence, there are multiple types of violence and all of them either hurt or kill individual(s). This is the reason why this world is such a bad place to be because every time there is a confrontation even the confrontation is small, violence is always the first resolution and injuries/deaths follows.

  13. I think the greatest wrong a society can commit is letting others get away with genocide and violence. It’s bittering to think that much of today’s violence is the cause of people being so hypocritical that they’re willing to shed blood over their beliefs they think are superior to another’s. Not to be cheesy, but it’s the same mindset of, “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” We as a society seem to no longer be able to recognize the differences of other people as a positive thing, and therefore feel threatened, confused, and angered. While these are all acceptable human emotions, nobody should have the power, or feel entitled to end someone’s life or hurt them because of their own incompetence.

The greatest wrong an individual can commit is to be abusive, or to show a lack of empathy towards each other. Today’s society has become so much of a “me, me, me, what can you do for me?” mindset for much of its people that we don’t look after one other and in turn become close-minded, hypocritical and narcissistic. Nobody should ever have to go through the mental or physical abuse of another person because the abuser thinks they know better, or knows no better way to get the results they want. When we don’t give others respect, or educate them on the necessity of selflessness, we only help to create more cruel people that aren’t educated on the need to be accepting and thoughtful to each other.

  14. Society has created a set of morals to follow ,and limits that should not be broken. Taking another persons life is arguably the worst moral crime a human can commit although through out history, genocide has taken place and has influenced history and how is has played out. violence has influenced nations, this is openly playing out before our eyes as we look at how the state of the Syrian civil war is affecting the nations surrounding.

  15. I think that fraud and murder are the worst wrongs that an individual can commit. When someone commits fraud, they are compromising their character to be someone else and lying to others. Murder is one of the greatest wrongs that an individual can do because murder is purposefully taking a life in the act of violence. As for society, I think that pressuring people to be the same is one of the greatest wrongs that can be committed because it seems that when kids are little, they are taught to color inside of the lines otherwise they do not get a good grade. As for college applications, students will sometimes participate in certain clubs in order to get admitted in the college of their choice. Society teaches its young people to learn in order to get the grade not to learn for the sake of learning.

  16. I think the greatest wrong a person could make is murdering others. People are being killed constantly for many different reasons.Individuals get angry over something and they think its alright to go and take another person's life. No one deserves to be killed from others because the other person was angry or maybe even trying to prove a point. The biggest wrong in society I think would also be killing others we have seen many different events take place in the world and its just being done out of hatred and trying to show who is stronger or better. Look at 9/11 after that happened we went into war all these events are unnecessary.

  17. I believe the greatest wrong a person or society can make is idolizing bad behavior. In the society we live in sex, drugs, and alcohol are everywhere. The majority of songs, TV shows, and movies glorify these actions. I feel as though it takes away our dignity to act like that. Justin Bieber is a great example. He has so many young fans who look up to him and he is now in jail for racing while drunk. It's terrible to think that any of these actions are acceptable or to admire anyone who does any of this..

  18. I think the greatest wrong the world can commit is one we have been committing over and over again. It almost seems like the world and everyone in it are trying to constantly "one up" each other to see how far they can go before someone else tries to stop them or do more than they did. Its started by heresy and going against the church which is now a common occurrence which deserves no more attention than a Nat flying around in a room. Then it became worse and worse, increasing to mass amounts of murder and genocide, to idolizing sinful things such as sex and drugs. At this point the world has corrupted itself so much we can't stop these 'wrongs' and it almost seems as if we don't want to. The wrong is "one upping" each others wrongs every time and allowing it.

  19. The greatest wrong an individual can commit is not being true to what they can become. The people who go out and do things that harm others usually are motivated by a problem within themselves. They choose to ignore the signs inside that there is a problem and they crush most of the chances that the future held. They are blinded from seeing the possibility by whatever is hurting them.
Society's great wrong is not doing something about these people and leaving bad influences open. Many people also choose to ignore the warning signs, so those who can do something to prevent it don't. Sometimes a person hides their feelings well so no one knows, but who put those feeling there? Societal strains. If the world was better, then society would be a more welcoming and simpler place to live. Fewer people would feel that they can't trust anyone with their feelings so they would be more open to help. What if everyone reached outside of their circle of friends and lifted someone they didn't know? Who needs help? What can make society better? Society has lost it's sense of love. Media and things of the world have polluted the meaning of love so that it is so twisted with other feelings that "love" isn't what it is. It's like Dante's experience in circle 2-the people there lived under the polluted definition of love, the version where lust and passion rule, and they forgot the true meaning of love. This love has the power to prevent and heal; it saves lives but it is blocked by society.

  20. The greatest wrong that an individual and society can commit is violence against others for no true reason other then their own personal pleasure or gain. These includes massacres, and genocide.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I believe the worst wrong society or an individual can commit is violence. Especially murder and genocide. It is no ones decision when to end or seriously harm another persons life. There are many wrongs in this world, but none have the same effect on others as violence. Unless under self defense there is no reason to commit violence, because it seriously damages the other person/people psychologically and physically. Violence is the deepest wrong one can commit.

  22. I believe the greatest wrong a society can commit is infringement upon personal freedoms such as religion or speech. When these natural rights are infringed upon by society, people lose their own sense of character. Nobody can stand up and make a difference if they do not have the ability to speak freely. Everybody in our society believes in different ideals and lifestyles, and neither is more or less right or wrong. People have the choice to believe what they wish to believe and become the person who they wish to become. Society becomes dangerous and commits its greatest wrong, when it forms a set of expectations or ideals that you must live up to. This creates the capability to block out any opposing viewpoints and alternative lifestyles.

  23. I believe that the greatest wrong a society can commit is not supporting the needs of its citizens. I think that this is the greatest wrong because without citizens, there would be no society. And if the citizens are supporting and helping the society stay stabilized and thriving, then the society needs to return the favor with supporting its citizens by giving them rights and supporting them when in need. On the other hand, I believe the greatest wrong an individual can commit is the act of taking another persons life. I believe that we do not hold the power to decide whether another human being should live or die. It is bad enough to harm ourselves, but to harm other innocent people in the process is just the worst thing imaginable.

  24. Society commits many wrongs but I believe the worst is suppressing the knowledge, awareness and abilities of others. I believe that everyone should have equal rights and opportunities such as, rights to an education. By keeping news and educational opportunities from others the equal abilities and knowledge of those individuals is greatly hindered, resulting in a lack of freedom and individuality.
The greatest wrong an individual can commit is the abuse or murder of another human being. Abuse (both mentally and physically) can leave a lasting negative impression on the person suffering the abuse. This impression can lead to depression, further abuse and other health problems. And I don't think anyone has the right to take the life another human being except God or nature. By killing someone you not only take their life away but you also impact and damage the lives of those who knew or loved that person.

  25. believe the greatest wrong a society or individual can commit is violence. I believe that murder and genocide is probably the worst. It is not ones decision to harm others or justify why they believe someone should die. The only person they should be allowed to harm is themselves if they feel violence to be necessary. There are many wrongs that happen in this world on a day to day basis, but violence for some reason is the one that affects people and a society the most. Something at Arapahoe High School we are all too familiar with. The only exception to violence that should be allowed is when it is in self-defense even then it may not be acceptable. Violence is the deepest wrong both society and a person can commit; it tars people apart and closing a part of their heart off to the world. It isn’t fair to anyone that has to go through the loss of a loved one when it could have been prevented

  27. The greatest wrong a society and an individual can commit is apathy; to deliberately ignore the wrongdoings of others in the interest of feeling like it isn't "worth" it. Yes, I could say genocide or violence, etc. are the worst sins a person or people could commit, however witnessing a crime and doing nothing to end or change it is in my eyes, worse. Sin is about choice; you can't control what others do and what evil they commit, but you are in control of your own actions and as such it is your duty to help others within the realm of your power. Choosing to do nothing, because you don't feel like you could make a difference or the issue at hand is just not important enough to demand your attention is how evil and sin spread to such gigantic proportions in the first place.
-'I Gave You All' from Mumford & Sons, "If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy I could have won."

  28. The wrongs of society and individuals are extremely great in number, having consequences ranging from minor to major. In a society people depend on each other and use each other to live, grow, and prosper and that is why I believe that the greatest wrong society can commit is to not take care of their people. As we look back in history and see the Nazi leader Hitler destroy a race and bring a mass of people to their knees in Jewish blood we see that there is no greater wrong than to destroy a person’s body, their beliefs, and their lives. He sent a prosperous growing community burning to the ground. The Jewish community was not taken care of and they paid greatly for it, millions died and were slaughtered, treated almost as animals. America, the land of the free, and the most prosperous nation in the world, then I ask why are thousands homeless across the country living off the filth of others. We are a united nation and we still leave our own living in the gutters, shivering in the cold, and in pain from hunger. These are only a few examples of the greatest wrong a society can make. Even the greatest countries and communities in this world commit this evil. The greatest wrong a society can commit is to not take care of there people, humans are not meant to live individually we were created to interact, to grow, to love. True beauty is in numbers not standing alone. A person alone has many wrongs that they can commit but I believe that the worst wrong a single person can commit is to stop denying evil, to give into it. Judas betrayed his master Jesus and he gave into the evil that surrounded his society and chose greed over human life, he did not stand up for good again though he stayed in the shadows and chose evil. His choice was the greatest wrong an individual can make. All of us have given into evil in our lives before, but most of us have bounced back and worked for good again. Those who give into evil and stay in the shadows are those who commit the greatest wrong a person can make, it is when they quit, when they give in, and throw the towel into their evil habits. The wrongs people and society make are choices that always lead to devastation in some way, but it is the way that people act, grow, how they rebuild from the disaster that sorts the wrongs from the rights, those who fight and claw for the good in life sort the truly good from evil.

  29. The greatest wrong society can commit is having lack of empathy towards one another. When people lack empathy they are showing hatred. In this society you will see plenty of people talking bad about somebody else. To make somebody else feel bad about themselves is the lowest. You can never take back what was said, and you never know how that might affect the person. Cutting people down just to make yourself feel better is not right. Especially if you don't know what others are going through. In today's society we hear a lot about suicides or self harming. A few mean words or actions can effect a person in a way that is indescribable, that's why I think lacking empathy for others is the greatest sin.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I believe the greatest wrong in society is people not staying true to their moral code. We all have to admit that everyone of us has wavered and not always been the person we want to be, but that doesn't mean it's ok. Morals are what holds this country up. Whether it's respect for others, to religion, morals are what everything comes back to. Society has a problem of takings something that is morally wrong and make it pleasing. It is disguised so well, that people don't see what is morally wrong with society, but there is always that underlying issue. Moral code is in the back of everyone's brain. it is the little voice inside telling them not to do something bad. people have been so mind washed and deceived to what a truly good moral code is that they don't even realize when they are doing right and when they are doing wrong. That is why I believe that morals can be our society's downfall.

  31. I believe the greatest wrong a society can commit is violence, especially for the purpose of hurting others based on their beliefs. No one should be penalized for what they believe. Society should not make standards for beliefs and hurt others for not being at this standard. Everyone is different. Everyone will have a different opinion, and no attempt to change this will prevail. Violence amongst society is unnecessary and wrong. The greatest wrong an individual can commit is enabling the bad and wrong doings of others. Watching others commit wrongs and evil acts and either not doing anything about it, or assisting, is wrong because one is allowing someone else to get hurt; they are allowing the violence.

  32. I believe the greatest wrong a person can make is murder. When I see people saying violence is the greatest wrong, I don't agree there are many different levels of violence and murder is the greatest, and out weighs any other. I believe that anything a person does can be undone through conversation between those involved. But murder can never be undone. It is something permanent and will never get a second chance. Therefore it is the greatest wrong someone can commit.

  34. I believe the greatest wrong society can commit is being scared of having faith in one another. Bad things happen; violence, murder, treachery, and robbery, but that does not mean all people are bad. When people give into their fear that all people are bad because of one person's wrong doing, society believes they can no longer tell the difference between good and evil, so people must shelter their families from everyone. No one can be sheltered forever, society has to reflect on the tragedies that happen and make something good out of it and they must have faith in one another. Society has to be willing to look for the good in one another or our fears will win and overtake the rest of our lives. Life is meant to be lived optimistically not in fear. There are a lot of bad people in the world but there are a lot more good people in the world. This is why I believe society's biggest down fall is being scared of having faith in one another.

  35. I believe the worst thing that society can commit is neglect. Some people do not realize how our world is not as perfect as we thought it was. People and animals have received tons of neglect from other people. They would ignore them and not take care of the certain needs that they need. They would also leave them and not try to help them, either because they are lazy or they do not care. It's sad. Society needs to realize that we all have to come to together to make our world better and not ignore things just because they are too lazy to do it. We all have feelings. Neglecting everything and anyone does not just hurt the person, but it hurts us mentally and physically because it hurts us as a person. The worst thing a person can commit is violence. We are social people and we have feelings. Things that happen to us in the present, affects us in the future. Someone who was abused in any relationship would bruise them for life and it would affect the next relationship in the future. Violence stays with us forever, it will never go away no matter how hard we try to forget.

  36. I think the greatest wrong a society can commit is not taking care of the needs of its people. We see it all over the place where the needs of a human are not met whether physically or emotionally. When an individual is not given enough support they lack the basic assets to get through life and succeed in some form. When our society is not equipped with the proper assets we are setting up to fail as a whole. The greatest wrong an individual can commit is murder. Taking another persons life is not a right anyone should have. Why should they have the right to decide who lives or dies?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would say the greatest wrong society can commit as a whole is not being there for one another in a time of tragedy and need. During natural disasters and local tragedies it is our duty as a society to be there for one another as human beings. The greatest wrong as an individual is probably to take someones life, or damage someone so bad mentally or physically that they can no longer lead a happy life. Sure, there are other things that are bad, but ruining someone else's life is the worst deed possible.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The single greatest wrong a society can commit is to become divided. The demise of a nation starts when the people turn against each other and the government. Often we hear the term "fighting the war at home" which refers to keeping the people content and determined on the home front while battling overseas. Vietnam is the prime example of how even a nation as great as the United States can be defeated because the people became divided.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think the greatest wrong a person can commit is the taking someones life. I think it is unreal that a person could go so far as to take someones life. You have to consider the peoples family. You will never be able to take back your actions. We live in a world where murder has beed almost accepted in our society and I don't think that is right.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The greatest wrong a society can commit is against its citizens. If a society ignores its citizens with education, personal freedoms, or poverty it can collapse. A good example of this currently is the Ukrainian protests. The government didn't listen to the people's wants and needs and now the people are voicing their need to be listened to. The worst thing an individual can do in life is take someone else's life. The largest personal freedom is the right to live. An individual, or even a society, should not be in charge of people's lives and especially not their deaths.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The greatest wrong that single person can commit would be to take another person's life. Its unnatural. Taking someone's life includes unbelievable pain and grief for the shooter along with the shooter's and the person who was shot's friends and family. It's becoming so prevalent in today's society, causing so much pain in the world. Once one person does it, it gives others the idea that this is an option, that it's an out, and then society becomes so used to it that nothing is being done about it. So the biggest crime that society can commit is to not do anything about it.

  42. Steven Almer:
I believe that the greatest wrong which can be committed by society would be general apathy toward its citizens. To me, apathy can follow one of two definitions: it can be the systematic or inadvertant ignoring of the general needs of a people, or the indifference toward the individual wrongs of society. Apathy itself, though it doesn't follow any one of the seven deadly sins, it may include several of them. Apathy for the purpose of the gain of the rulers of a society could be considered greed, apathy for the purpose of punishment could be considered wrath, while apathy with no reasoning other than indifference could be considered sloth.

  43. In our world today, there are many wrongs committed daily by our society and many individuals. The worst wrongs committed by society are neglect and closed-mindedness. Whereas the worst individual wrong, in my opinion, is murder.
Our society that we live in is very messed up, but I believe there are two wrongs that are equally evil. The first wrong of our society today is neglect. We seem to only care about our own well-being and thus we neglect the needs of others. In a good society people should be watching out for one another, taking care of those in need, and helping as much as they can with worldly problems. But sadly, it seems that the majority of our population we only watch our own backs, ignore all the people in need and contribute to our lives only. The second, and in my opinion the worst, wrong that our society faces is our closed-mindedness. It seems that every person thinks that what they believe in is the only thing to believe in. Take religion for example, we emotionally and physically attack other people for what they believe in because it isn't what we believe in.
As I stated, I believe that the worst wrong a single person can commit is a murder. I do not believe that it should be up to a human to decide when another human loses his or her life. I believe that decision should be left up to a higher power. Furthermore I do not believe that if an individual commits a murder, he or she should be sentenced to death whether that is by legal counsel or revenge. Though a murderer took matters into his or her own hands, I still believe that individual’s death should be determined by the divine powers.

  44. Based off of today's time I believe that murder is one of the worst crime that a person can commit. For me I believe that for a person to go and kill someone else they need to have a really good reason for doing so. No matter what reason that a person has for killing someone I don't believe that there is a good enough reason to end someone's life. As for the worst crime that a society can commit I would say is to treat a certain culture or group of people as if they weren't equals. I find it completely rude to believe that there are people out there who treat others like they are worth nothing. I believe that we should treat everybody the same way. For some cases I also believe that illegal immigrants shouldn't be kicked out of the United States because they weren't born and raised in the United States.

  45. The biggest wrongdoing society can commit is to use what they know and what they have to manipulate people. The business market is constantly using the media to sugar coat their service or product to draw people in thinking they'll be getting something decent; but when it comes time, they use loopholes and cheap people for the money. This breaks their customers trust in that company and all other companies leading them into hopelessness and distrust when it comes to spending their money

    ReplyDelete
  46. I believe that the greatest wrong a person could commit is by far violence. Not only is it harmful to everyone involved but it weakens that ground that we all stand on. What I mean by that is, is that people loose a lot of faith in one another when brought to violence. Sure maybe you had to stand up for your friends in a fight, but the moment you jump in you immediately put yourself at their level.
The worst wrong a society as a whole could do is to turn their backs on one another. Now a days all you see is how dictators and harsh leaders are killing their own people for money and power. I believe this is the worst wrong because if you can't even embrace the people you are with and you can even live with the others around you, how then do you expect people around the world to feel about you? I feel as though it is the worst because not only are you hurting your own people but it fills the rest of the world with anger and hatred towards that country. That anger then turns into violence because most of the world retaliates with violence unfortunately.

  47. The greatest wrong that an individual can commit is murder, or even the thought and intent to murder. They are taking away the opportunity of life that others have. An equal, if not greater wrong than murder is suicide, or taking away your own opportunity. I believe the greatest wrong for society is exclusion. Once again, it goes back to opportunity, and removing access to that for people. I am not saying that we should all be entitled to something, but rather have access to the pursuit of happiness.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think some of the greatest wrongs a society can commit is by not recognizing problems that are happening everyday to its citizens and not doing anything whatsoever to help fix the problem. A society must work as one to make change happen, and if no one does anything, nothing will change. Just one voice sometimes can't be enough. As for an individual, I personally believe self-harm can be the worst crime one can commit. Hating yourself is like hating Gods creation, and He made you the way He intended.
