Friday, February 7, Period 1, Andrei Williams

On Friday we started the class by turning in the Fall of Satan packet. Next Mrs. Smith checked everyone for their five questions for the fishbowl. For the rest of the class we had a fishbowl discussion. One of the main topics in the fishbowl was "to what extent does a creator have responsibility over its creation?" A few other topics were why does God let evil happen and why do people sin even though they know it's wrong.

If you were not here for the fishbowl on Friday or want to say some more for more points, you have to come into Mrs. Smith's office and talk about your questions.

Lastly, we checked out Frankenstein books.
Homework was to read vii-xxii

Monday February 10 P.1

Happy Monday!!

First, our HOMEWORK is to finish your Last Lecture Part 1 for Friday. Also, read Frankenstein chapters 3-5 and answer the question: Why won't the narrator reveal the secret of animationg human flesh? Finally, if you missed Friday's Fishbowl or you have something to add, you can bring your 5 discussion questsions and talk to Ms. Smith tomorrow!

At the beginning of class we satched a short clip called Frankenstein: it's Alive to give us an idea of Dr. Frankenstein. The link is on today's agenda.

We broke into groups of four and each wrote on sticky notes what attributes of Shelley's life influenced her writing. The class determined that the 4 basic categories had a major influence:
  1. Her work (Frankenstein and the monster) represent the loved ones she lost
  2. Shelley repeatedly lost her children and had pregnancy issues
  3. She grew up without her birth mother, who died when she was born
  4. The role of the people and world around her (i.e. industry, her father's literary friends, rise of science, etc.)
Then we started reading Frankenstein and what we didn't finish is homework, ch. 3-5.

Have a great day!!

Friday Feb. 7 Hour 4

During class we went over what is homework. The homework was to write the last lecture part one which is due on Friday the 14. Other homework was to read the introduction to Frankenstein which is pages vii through xxii.

Once we were finished with talking about homework we got ready for our fishbowl. Once we started our fishbowl Mrs. Smith went around the room and checked off who all had their five questions done. We spent the rest of the class period on the fishbowl covering all sorts of group with the topics. Once we were finished talking Mrs. Smith told everyone, who didn't get any speaking time or only talked a couple of times, that they need to go in and see her to make up the points they missed.

February 5th Scribe Period 1 Sam G

Class started with a greeting, then we expressed our sadness for the lack of donuts. Ms Smith gave us our homework which was to come up with 5 questions for Fridays fishbowl, to work on our last lecture part 1, and if we wanted to get a head start on Frankenstein to read the introduction for Monday. Here is a link

We then continued reading the from Paradise Lost and working on our Fall of Satan packets which were due at the end of class. At the end of class we turned in our packets and were allowed to check out a copy of Frankenstein from Ms Smith if we wished.

Period 4 Scribing- Jens Peaslee

Today began just as usual with Mrs. Smith saying hello to the class and the class replying.  Sadly, this Wednesday we had no snacks yet again.  But the class had to go on.

She then proceeded to give us our homework which consists of the First part of your Last Lecture being due on week from Friday, finishing your 5 Fishbowl questions, and a rare opportunity.  She gave the class an option to check out a Frankenstein book and read pages vii-xxii (7-22) of the introduction.  You can read it now, or do it for homework over the weekend, but if you do it now you won't have homework over the weekend.

She then had us split up into our groups that we were in on Monday to finish the "Fall of Satan" packet.  She told us that it would be due by the end of the hour, and then let us go to work.

At the end of class, almost everyone was working on the reading and most everyone had turned in the packet and was ready to leave.  Mrs. Smith sent us on our way saying, "Have a great day!"
